Related Introduction
Xiaomi "leak gate" is brewing, so that Xiaomi in China's Taiwan market to enter the difficulties. And recently, after Xiaomi in China's Taiwan exposed privately uploaded user information, it also in China's Hong Kong, Singapore market encountered the same "trouble".
"Leak gate" ferment
The media of the three places bombarded Xiaomi by investigation
This season, it must be an eventful autumn for Xiaomi. Recently, China's Taiwan announced that it has launched an investigation into Xiaomi.
China's Taiwan information security experts found that information security loopholes in the body of Xiaomi mobile phone is often tested, after exposing the "scars" of Xiaomi mobile phone without permission can upload user information. F-Secure's test report points to a flaw in Xiaomi's phones: users' phone numbers and other information are not encrypted, but passed in plain code. A skilled person with considerable computer ability can obtain a user's phone number directly in the same network environment by means of eavesdropping.
Under pressure from Chinese media in Taiwan, Xiaomi admitted the transmission and issued a public apology, explaining that the return of phone numbers, IMSI and IMEI was used to detect the online status of the phone so that it could normally use the "network SMS" service. Xiaomi also confirmed that phone numbers sent back to its servers via the messaging service are not encrypted, but sent in plain code. Provided a system update on Aug. 10 that turned off the auto-activation feature for "web messaging." At the same time, the network SMS is used to identify the user's phone number and encrypt it.
This is not Xiaomi's first, and probably not its last.
In May this year, the well-known Chinese security vulnerability reporting platform "Wuyun" released news that the official data of the Mi Forum was leaked, directly affecting 8 million registered users of the forum, and personal data security was threatened. Xiaomi officially admitted that some forum accounts registered before August 2012 had been illegally stolen.
Due to the particularity of Xiaomi account (cloud storage), if the account password is cracked, it is likely to affect the security of users' personal data. This may cause the user whose password has been cracked to be defrauded by criminals, and the leaked data contains the user name, password, email, registered IP and other private information.
In July, Xiaomi ran into trouble again when it was fined NT $600,000 for violating fair trade laws by falsely reporting sales in Taiwan. While apologizing, Xiaomi said it sold only 30 fewer units than it reported.
The "leak incident" in China's Taiwan has not yet ended. On August 14, it was reported that Xiaomi was investigated by Singapore's Personal Information Protection Commission. According to media reports, regulators in Singapore also said they are looking into a case of Xiaomi phones allegedly leaking users' privacy, after Taiwan regulators announced an investigation into Xiaomi phones automatically sending data back to servers in Beijing.
"There is no response at the moment," Liu Wei, assistant to Xiaomi's chairman, said when reached by phone. He said he was not available for an interview.
Liang Zhenpeng, an observer of the consumer electronics industry, believes that the smartphone Android system itself is a free and open source system, and the MIUI system of Xiaomi mobile phone is a second developed operating interface based on the Android system, which is prone to problems in terms of compatibility and security. The system vulnerabilities generated in the secondary development process may lead to the leakage of software and user data. For Xiaomi, it should develop and release the corresponding patch as soon as possible to allow users to repair the vulnerability, and it should compensate users for the loss caused by the data leak.
In the Chinese market, the Mi mobile power supply exploded, the Mi router was ridiculed, the Mi 4 was criticized, and the Mi employees "taunted" the Nokia employees, which led to external criticism...... Have pushed Xiaomi into the storm of public opinion. For four years, "copying" has been a constant companion for Xiaomi.
An industry source said, "If the leak continues, Xiaomi will face a credibility crisis in the newly entered markets of Taiwan and Singapore, which will affect its long-term performance. Unlike the Chinese market, where it has a strong base of Mi fans, the test of Xiaomi in Taiwan and Singapore is a real one." Whether the young company will survive the test does not look promising. The loss of brand credibility will be a direct death blow to the performance."

TCL: The leaks are not unique

Lenovo: Xiaomi lacks experience

In the view of the industry, it is the hungry marketing of millet, so that millet products are sold on the user repeatedly ridicule, "rice fans" are beginning to look at millet rationally. Xiaomi is under pressure to expand as sales of its TVS, boxes and routers falter, and its proud mainstay phones are under threat.
Xiaomi overtook Samsung to take the top spot in China's smartphone market in the second quarter of 2014 with a 14% market share, according to data released by Canalys. When Lenovo released its latest financial results, it said that authoritative data from IDC showed that Lenovo had become the No.1 smartphone in China with 12.5% market share in the first quarter of this year. The "battle" between the two companies has attracted industry attention. In any case, the time of one dominant player has gone forever. The smartphone market pattern presents a situation of several players competing for the largest market, and the declining sales trend of young Xiaomi and the gradual loss of price advantage make its position less stable.
In addition to the spat with Lenovo over who is the biggest player in China's smartphone market, vendors such as Huawei, ZTE, Coolpad and Meizu are all trying to undercut Xiaomi this year with lower-priced products.
Guo Aiping, CEO of TCL Communication, said that there is no possibility for TCL to leak information in cooperation with operators, and Xiaomi's "leak incident" is not an isolated case. There are certain norms in the mobile phone market, and the basic rules must be observed, but some enterprises obviously do not pay enough attention to it.
"Anti-theft and anti-leaks have always been a must-have task for smartphone manufacturers, which is a tough task for inexperienced companies," a Lenovo executive told reporters. The regulatory system still needs to be improved."
